Several iPhone 8 related leaks surfaced over the weekend, backing up a radical new chassis design first seen in April. The new schematics include the various characteristics we’ve seen reported for the OLED iPhone in the past including the elongated power button, vertical dual camera and lack of a physical home button. Most notably, an orange outline traces the purported screen area of the iPhone 8. Based on this schematic, the screen will be effectively bezel-less on left, right and bottom sides whilst the top edge will cut inwards to accommodate the front camera, earpiece and sensors....

Following Apple’s “record” quarter it reported yesterday, Strategy Analytics is today out with new data showing the performance of the Apple Watch during the holiday quarter. Apple touted yesterday that its wearable had a record quarter and today’s data further reflects that strong performance… As a whole, the smartwatch industry was up 1 percent year-over-year to 8.2 million in 2016. That growth is almost entirely attributed to Apple’s success during the holiday quarter....

Actor Andre Holland will star in Netflix’s The Eddy. Based on an American jazz musician living in Paris, the drama series is the creation of American film director Damien Chazelle. In 2016, Chazelle won the Best Director Academy Award for La La Land, a romantic musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The Eddy was initially order by Netflix in 2017. At 39 years old, Holland is a veteran TV and film star....

YouTuber Duncan Sinfield is out today with his latest drone footage of Apple Park. While it may be unlikely, the video gives a glimmer of hope that Apple could hold its September event at the beautiful Steve Jobs Theater. It looks like Sinfield shot the video around dusk, but there is still progress from the flyover we saw last week that will catch your eye. First, there are some areas of Apple Park where sod or possibly some artificial turf has been installed....

The latest Apple Watch clone is on the way from Chinese smartphone maker Oppo. A render of an upcoming smartwatch was posted by a noted leaker. Oppo itself teased the watch in December, though it only showed a silhouette at the time… BGR spotted the tweet by @UniverseIce, labeled simply, “OPPO’s first smartwatch rendering.” The design is a slightly surprising move from a company which has so far managed to find its own way rather than just copy Apple....

As part of the Mac OS X 10.7.3 update released earlier this week, Security Update 2012-001 [release notes] for Snow Leopard broke compatibility with several Rosetta Power PC programs. The issue, as described on Tidbits, MacInTouch and on Apple Support Communities threads (here, here and here), causes some third-party programs to crash unexpectedly under Snow Leopard. This includes popular applications such as Quicken, Filemaker 7, Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office 2004 and X....

The report indicates that Apple will release its first ARM Mac as soon as the end of this year, with a shipment timeframe of Q4 2020 – Q1 2021. This will likely be some kind of MacBook, but Kuo does not provide more specific technical details … Most people assume that Apple will start its transition from Intel to ARM Macs with some kind of laptop. Laptops have a performance profile in line with the latest iPad Pro, and Apple has shown its excellence in making powerful ARM chips to rival laptops....

Legendary Entertainment is developing a Land of Oz TV series. The original Land of Oz, as imagined by children’s author L Frank Baum, first appeared in Baum’s 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which was adapted in 1939 into one of the most iconic Hollywood films ever. Winning two Oscars at the 1940 Academy Awards, The Wizard of Oz helped make a major star out of actress Judy Garland....

The course, called eSmart Digital Licence+, is designed to help build digital intelligence. It is a gamified learning experience where students can explore an interactive story-world containing learning materials, relatable scenarios, and guided reflections about personal experiences with technology. Once students complete the milestones in the course, they then receive a Digital Licence+. Shadow Minister for Education Tanya Plibersek likened the digital licence to a “pen licence for the digital age”....

As part of the latest update to Sketch, a popular design tool for app development, the company announced that they have partnered with Apple to integrate the official iOS 11 design templates inside the app. Sketch users can now simply download the Apple iOS UI Library in one click, and get automatic updates when new resources are added. The integration allows designers to draw upon Apple’s library of system iconography and interface elements in their mockups and canvases....

The new whodunnit film Knives Out, Rian Johnson’s first post-Star Wars movie, is receiving great reviews. Written and directed by Johnson, Knives Out is a murder mystery full of star cast members, lighthearted humor and nods to the great murder mystery authors Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. The plot of Knives Out revolves around the mysterious murder of crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) who was found dead at his home on his 85th birthday....

Apple’s 2018 iPhone line-up is widely expected to include a 6-inch/6.1-inch model with a similar design to the iPhone X but using a cheaper LCD display to target a $7-800 price. Patently Apple speculated a few days ago that Apple might use a new form of LCD technology developed by LG, and a supply-chain report appears to lend weight to this idea … Known as MLCD+, it was developed by LG for use in its recently-announced G7 ThinQ smartphone....

Kylie Jenner, star of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, has moved on from her two-year relationship with rapper Travis Scott and is reportedly getting a lot closer to rap superstar Drake. The beauty business mogul has been rumored to be dating the Canadian rapper after the two were spotted spending time together at Drake’s birthday party last month. The mother of one announced her split from the Grammy-nominated rapper last month after almost three years of dating and the birth of their 1-year-old daughter Stormi Webster....

Kylo Ren used some of Luke Skywalker’s fighting techniques in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The two figures had a long and complicated history, and that tension boiled over in 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The sequel trilogy heavily focused on Kylo Ren and Rey, as they were constantly being pulled to the opposing sides of the Force. Their fighting techniques when it came to lightsabers duels, however, revealed how much Luke made an impression on the next generation of Force-users in the galaxy....

Apple’s under construction Campus 2 building in Cupertino is rapidly taking shape as this latest flyover video from Duncan Sinfield shows. The video gets us as close to the site as we’ve seen yet with the video showing a ton of progress made on the main circular building that will house a large portion of the total 13,000 or so employees the campus will hold. Evidence that Apple is nearing completion on at least the exterior of the main building can be seen at around 45 seconds in the video where Sinfield notes you can see the roof being lifted in place, and we also get our best shot yet at the large glass panels Apple has been installing on the main building as of a few months back....

Photos of apparent leaked iPhone 6 parts continue, the latest from AppleClub in Taiwan claiming to show complete logic board assemblies. With most of the components hidden beneath shielding, we don’t learn anything new beyond the flash memory chip middle-left appearing to be made by Toshiba … The A8 chip would be beneath the shielding on the right, just above the SIM slot. The photo adds to recent ones showing tapered edges on the display panel and the power button moved from the top to the side of the phone; a raised camera cutout; and a single, circular True Tone flash....
