According to IGN, during a Q&A session at the Tokyo Game Show, Kojima told the audience that “it will be out before the Olympics;” most likely referring to the 2020 Olympics. He also added:

Since Akira was set in 2019, this means that Death Stranding will (hopefully) be out at some point in 2018.

Kojima also further extrapolated on last weeks’ reveal that the title will have some form of online multiplayer, by saying that it can be played solo. He vaguely added:

Other details that revealed include the fact that it will star a female protagonist as well (alongside The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus) but casting for her is still underway, and that the game is being developed on a “well-known” third-party engine.

Death Stranding will be released on the PS4 and will be Kojima’s first title after his departure from Konami.
