Both Gartner and IDC have released their respective data on the worldwide PC market for the first quarter of 2019. Both research firms note a decline year-over-year in shipments, though one is more dramatic than the other. According to IDC, the worldwide PC market fell 3 percent year-over-year to 58.5 million. That number is slightly above expectations. The contraction, IDC says, can be blamed on a shortage of Intel processors at the low-end of the market....

A number of Korean smartphone retailers are threatening legal action against Apple over what they consider an unfair policy on display models. Ming-Chi Kuo has today released a report that is good news for Apple. The first week of October is a national holiday in China. Kuo is reporting that most domestic phone manufacturers saw sales fall year-over-year during Golden Week. Kuo blamed insufficient innovation, and believes that some proportion of consumers are leaning on older iPhone models or awaiting the upcoming iPhone XR launch on October 26. Kuo says that he estimates iPhone XR replacement demand in China to be higher than last year’s cycle with the iPhone 8....
