A strange report today claims that an Apple executive attempted to “physically” deter a Korean antitrust probe by an investor. It also alleges that the company hampered an investigation by the country’s official regulator. The Korea Fair Trade Commission (FTC) says that it intends to fine Apple for obstructing its investigation, and refer the company for prosecution … Background The report relates to an antitrust investigation that previously appeared to have been concluded to everyone’s satisfaction....

Ahead of showing the devices off at CES, LaCie has just announced a pair of new storage accessories for Apple users. First off, the company will be showing off the Little Big Disk Thunderbolt 2 drive. As the name implies, this drive will take advantage of Intel’s latest Thunderbolt 2 technology and deliver speeds up to “ten times faster” than any USB 3.0 drive. LaCie touts transfer speeds of 1,375 MB/s....

It’s no surprise that 95% of U.S. consumers share up to six passwords with other people when you consider that this includes WiFi passwords for home Internet connections and sharing Netflix passwords with family members, but a survey by LastPass showed that 59% also re-use the same passwords for multiple sites. Put the two facts together and people could potentially be allowing access to rather more than they intended. The younger you are, the more likely you are to share passwords with a friends: 40% of 18-29 year olds do so, dropping to 15% for those aged 30-44 and 6% at 45-59....

It’s quite common to find manufacturers slinging mud at each other via ad campaigns and Samsung has done just that with its new ad for the Galaxy Tab Pro. This commercial focuses on various aspects and features of the tablet while also telling users why its rivals just aren’t good enough. Samsung launched three Galaxy Tab Pro devices in 12.2, 10.1 and 8.4 inch configurations respectively. The highlights of these tablets are the high resolution 2560 x 1600 resolution display and the powerful Snapdragon 800 SoC with LTE support....

Apple is said to be accelerating the product pipeline for new Mac laptops. Following the warm reception to the 16-inch MacBook Pro, reliable Ming-Chi Kuo now expects Apple to deliver new MacBook Air and new MacBook Pro models in the second quarter. This means the butterfly keyboard will have flown away on all of Apple’s products by June. Previously, Kuo had said that the 13-inch MacBook Pro would get the new scissor switch keyboard design in the first half of the year, and the Air would follow a few months later....

The cool thing about Pocket is it’s on virtually every platform, but, there isn’t an official Pocket app in the Windows Store. But I’ve found an alternative that works pretty good called Latermark. Once you download it, just sign in with your Pocket account, and everything you’ve saved or “pocketed” from other platforms like Chrome, Android, iOS…etc. it will be available on your Surface. You can also tap your username and tap Sync with Pocket to get your latest saves....

The Nikkei Asian Review is reporting that Apple will launch its iWatch in October, rather than alongside the iPhone 6 in September as has been widely expected. It’s also citing unnamed “industry sources” as saying that the watch will have a curved, OLED touchscreen and that Apple is planning on producing 3-5M units a month. According to a parts manufacturer, it plans monthly commercial output of about 3-5 million units, which exceeds the total global sales of watch-like devices last year....

A report today form renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Apple will drop the 5.4-inch iPhone in 2022, instead offering a lineup of high-end and low-end 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch phones. The 5.4-inch screen sized featured this year in the iPhone 12 mini, and will be available in the iPhone 13 range this fall. However, it seems that will be its final outing. The iPhone 12 mini appealed to enthusiasts who wanted modern specs like 5G and the A14 processor but did not care for the big phone trend of the last five years....

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has run full-page newspaper ads apologizing for the privacy breach that allowed a researcher to collect user data that was later used by Cambridge Analytica to help elect Trump. Fallout so far has included investigations in the US and UK, lawsuits and a petition. The ads were run in the Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and six UK newspapers … The apology, shown in full below, explains what Facebook is doing to prevent a repetition, and Zuckerberg promises ‘to do better for you....

Slice Intelligence, which tracks online orders by scanning the email inboxes of more than 2M panel members, estimates that Apple has sold 2.79M Apple Watches in the USA, reports Reuters. The estimate does not include sales in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong or Japan. Slice last month reported that around 1.5M U.S. orders were placed on the first day of pre-orders, with sales tailing off rapidly after this....

Alright, I know you’re tempted to hit the comments and argue how the vast majority of Apple users are the creative, fashion-conscious types anyway and that might just as well be true. But as a rule of thumb, when Porsche Design teams up with gadget makers the resulting toys and accessories carry a hefty premium. In the case of the new LaCie Porsche Design mobile and desktop drives, the Mac tax is bearable....

With Apple’s big WWDC keynote event kicking off at 10 AM Pacific, this past weekend has seen a flurry of semi-questionable rumors surface. The most interesting of these ‘leaks’ originate from this Weibo page which has proved reliable in the past (which @l0vetodream posted in English). The same post claims tvOS will feature deeper integration with HomeKit. Right now, the Apple TV can control HomeKit accessores like smart lights using voice control on the Siri remote, but there isn’t a dedicated Home app on tvOS like there is for Apple’s other platforms....

The iPhone 8 leaks continue this weekend with images emerging of yet another dummy unit. Shared on Twitter by leaker Onleaks, the dummy model corroborates much of what we’ve seen many times in the past related to the iPhone 8’s design, including a glass back, vertical dual-camera design, and more… The dummy model pictured shows dramatically reduced bezels with a nearly edge-to-edge display. At the top of the screen is the cutout for the front-facing camera, speaker, and sensors....

Kode with Klossy is a coding program inspired by model and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss that encourages girls to learn code and become leaders in tech. The program originally launched in 2015, but today it has been announced that the program will continue this summer. Kode with Klossy is completely free, and is available for girls ages 13-18, with a limited 1,000 slots available. The program will be expanding from 15 camps in 12 cities in 2017 to 50 camps in 25 cities across the United States....

Samsung, in a surprise to no one, announced earlier this month that the GS4 would come in two flavors. One would have a Qualcomm Snapdragon inside, while the other would have Samsung’s own Exynos chip. According to the Korean Electronic Times, apparently Samsung is having some issues making chips for the GS4. They say that 70% of the first 10 million GS4 units shipped will use a Qualcomm part....
